How I Found My Spiritual Path — And What I Did to Nurture It

Finding my spiritual path was a long time coming.

As a child, I would see or hear things that most people couldn’t. I would say things that unsettled my parents because I somehow knew things I shouldn’t have known. At the time, it terrified me.

So I did what many children do when something feels overwhelming — I ignored it. If I saw a shadow, I pretended it wasn’t there. If I heard something, I convinced myself I imagined it. For years, I pushed it away.

It wasn’t until I became an adult that curiosity began to replace fear.

Curiosity Before Commitment

As a teenager and into my twenties, I started reading anything spiritual I could get my hands on:

  • crystals

  • tarot

  • witchcraft

  • psychics

  • manifestation

  • paranormal experiences

If something intrigued me, I studied it, but I didn’t take it too seriously. It was more fascination than commitment. At least, at first.

The Hard Years That Changed Everything

Several life-changing events catapulted me deeper into spirituality. Not because I was chasing magic, but because I was searching for meaning.

  • My dad was diagnosed with ALS.

  • I became his caregiver for a year.

  • I left an abusive relationship.

  • My daughter was diagnosed with autism.

  • I learned to live on my own for the first time — just the two of us.

It was the hardest season of my life. I remember constantly asking myself, “Why do bad things happen to good people? There has to be a reason. There has to be a plan.”

Spirituality gave me a framework to understand the world I was living in. It gave me a way to process suffering without being consumed by it.

And slowly, my questions changed. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” I began asking, “What is this trying to teach me?”

The first question made me feel powerless. The second one gave me strength. That shift changed everything.

The Night Everything Clicked

As I dove deeper into different spiritual paths, some resonated, while others didn’t. I followed what felt aligned and let go of what didn’t. Eventually, that path led me to white magic.

The first spell I ever cast was for my dad. His care had become so intensive that I was physically and emotionally overwhelmed. I had been trying to get him into the VA medical center (he was a veteran) but the waitlist was incredibly long.

One night, during a full moon, I cast a simple white magic spell to help him find placement. The very next day, I received a call from the VA offering him a spot.

I was stunned.

In that moment, something shifted inside me. I realized that perhaps we have more influence over our lives than we’ve been led to believe. We are not entirely helpless.

From Personal Practice to Purpose

That experience opened the door. I began casting for myself, carefully and intentionally. Over time, as I gained confidence and saw results, I began helping others.

In early 2020, right before Covid hit the United States, I opened my business: Witch of Carolina LLC (which I later rebranded into what it is now: Carolina Mystic LLC). Within four months, I was earning enough to do this work full-time. Eventually, I expanded into tarot and mediumship readings as well.

What began as curiosity turned into passion. Passion turned into purpose. Purpose turned into a career. I followed what felt right, even when it was scary.

The Growth No One Sees

My journey wasn’t smooth. I went through a divorce, custody battle, and my father passed away. All while building a business and learning how to parent a young child with autism.

It was brutal at times but I grew because of it. I gained independence, confidence, wisdom, and learned to trust myself. The very hardships that once made me question everything ended up shaping me into the person I was meant to become — and into the practitioner I am today.

If You’re Still Finding Your Way

Your spiritual path will not look like mine (and it shouldn’t). But if you are walking through something difficult right now, know this:

  • Hard seasons can become turning points.

  • Pain can become purpose.

  • Fear can become strength.

Spiritual growth doesn’t always begin with enlightenment. Sometimes it begins with survival. The greatest transformation comes from choosing to rise, even when life tries to knock you down.

At the end of the day, finding your path isn’t about becoming someone new, it’s about becoming who you’ve always been — without fear.
